So lets begin! So lets discuss firstly, how many types of solar power plants are there 1. On-grid solar power plant On-grid means the one which is connected with the transmission lines.
Transmission line is called grid. Solar panels, connected to the grid are called on-grid Next comes the off-grid solar power plants Off-grid means the one that is not connected to the grid, the one which is not connected to the transmission line This means that we will have to connect it with something else True it is. You got it right! And that thing is a battery.The extra energy is stored into a battery. Next comes the hybrid.
A mixture of on and off In this kind, we connect it to the grid as well as to the battery Now, lets discuss the areas where solar power plants are used. Firstly, it is used for residential purpose. That is on the roof top or on the top of the building or anywhere else This kind of plants usually have capacity ranging from 1 KW to 10KW Next comes the commercials. These are used for offices. Just because the energy consumption in your offices is more, their capacity too is greater These generally have a capacity of 10 KW to 50 KW to be installed. Next comes industrial. You would have understood that As the level increases, so will the energy consumption and in the same way, the plant capacity too increases. At industrial level, the capacity generally ranges from 10 KW to 1000 KW i.e, 1 MW Next comes the utility sector Utility sector means setting up power plants at the places where the main purpose is to provide electricity to people These range from Mega Watts to Giga Watts Electricity generated by the solar plants for the use of large companies or governmental use are generally of this scale and is called utility scale power plant Let us now see which are the components of solar power plants First comes the solar panel.
Which is the heart of our solar system Solar panel helps to convert the solar energy into electrical energy Next comes the mounting rack. Mounting rack is basically the back bone of solar system. Mounting rack supports our solar panel structure and helps it to be stabilized at a particular angle Next comes the inverter. Inverter basically converts the energy. The conversion is from which form to which form or from which type of electricity to which type of electricity, that will be discussed later. Next comes the net meter. Net meter basically keeps the count of your electricity consumption. i.e, how much did you import or how much did you export Through a case study, let us now discuss how does an on-grid solar power plant works Assume that you have installed an on-grid solar system at your place. which is supplying you 2 Units of electricity at noon time Now if some guests visit your place.
Then your AC, your TV, your fridge, your oven, all these appliances are ON And they are consuming 4 units of electricity. But your solar plant is generating only 2 units. Then where will the 2 remaining units come from? Those will be supplied from your grid When you import electricity from grid, the meter rotates in the forward direction And will increase the energy consumption Now, if the vacations begin, and your kids demand to go out for trips Now you went for a trip, but your system is still generating electricity at your house Then where does that go? Where will those 2 units of electricity generated go? That goes directly to your grid.
And it will go through the meter only. And will rotate the meter in the reverse direction Through which, your electricity consumption is reduced. By this way, at the end of the month, when you see your electricity bill, the it won't be sky rocketing high rather it would be as low as possible. Let us now see which are the benefits of on-grid system. Firstly, what we saw, that it saves a lot money. Through net metering, it saves a lot of your money. Secondly, the on-grid system is pretty affordable and is pretty easy to install. As well as, the maintenance of on-grid system is less You only have to measure your solar panel And little maintenance of your inverter will do. No other maintenance is required. Thirdly, your grid is your virtual battery bank. If you use any battery, it will have a limited capacity But your transmission lines, or your grid doesn't have one. It can have a capacity equal to the amount of electricity you can supply.
So supply how much ever you want to. Fourth benefit is that, govt. provides us with a lot of subsidies for installing an on-grid solar system You can very well take the advantage of it and you must take it. Lastly and very importantly , is that help the country Whatever you have in surplus, share it If , in your region, solar energy is available in a huge quantity, then do utilize it, produce electricity and share it with the people who experience a shortage of the same.
