A Beginner’s Guide to Installing Solar Panels

[Music] i'm jeremy gates managing director of guide construction today we're gonna talk about solar panels are you interested in solar panels is there anything more you'd like to know about solar panels I'd like to introduce you to a debater and then thank you for joining us today Adams the National Sales Director of the green power company there have been new world energy experts I guess the first question people always ask Adam is how much does the average solar system cost depends on size basically you know there's a lower limit that you'd want to go to I mean our average sized residential install is about five kilowatts so you'd be looking at a basic starting price of about six and a half thousand after the government group a and then anything up from there to a point obviously depending on what key is being installed battery readiness will obviously out there for us but it all comes down to the brands that are being installed so you know everyone should have solar everyone benefit through solar the brands that are installed and the size of the system you know that's something we can recommend that it's the other day that's required to decide with some guidance from us how many how many people were the average four pillar or five kilowatt system look it's probably fits into that space of your average sort of household so four to six people yeah around that you know four five hundred dollar bill it's gonna make a big offset in their power bills and their interest overheads so if you've got a smaller battery through and a half kilowatt system or would you put as many panels as you can really look I mean it depends what we're trying to achieve I made our belief ease as much as your roof and buttock and can allow for yeah but look we can saw systems up you know on the small assad's will sit diatom usage and keep it around you know the three four and a half kilowatts again you know I mean if you're consuming the majority of the power that sort of assistant generates today's electricity process you're going to be saving about thousand of $1,200 a year potentially so what's the average payback standing system okay a well size solar system that gets your daytime usage so it should have your money back within about the five year it will take if you're looking at a more premium type system maybe that's another year or so about payback yeah proposition about five years it should obviously so five to seven years Germany yeah comfortably within that sort of ecology with a operating system do you generate a little power as well as it personally so a more parameter total system yeah so when I say more premium I guess I'm talking about the efficiency of the panels ya know where that might because Michael obviously comes into flight team so you warranty protection on that that back in yep sort of things you know if you're looking at a more fish in a panel a more efficient panel you know you take advantage of your roof space getting more power out of your room so roof space limitations you might be forced to look at a more powerful panel yeah rather than scaling it back to a more middle of the road but a good quality system you know a middle-of-the-road panel and as a rule of thumb of european-made inverter you'll end up with a system that allows you in a decade without through miniatures I know there's two different clinton converters well can you explain the difference of this yeah okay so your standard diverter little bit burner on the wall so you've got all the panels basically wired into that inverter and the system operates potentially at a to stream level if there is significant shade or you know comprehensive monitoring on that side of things is really important to you want to have a micro inverter and microinverters our individual inverters bolted up on the roof and run each panel independent of each other so again if you if you're worth tops income encompassing city pitch shade across the day you might be for sort of opera more beneficial to look at employ my crown burners rather than a single string inverter using a streaming burner with a shave on a panel or two it's more than that panel or two yields that are impacted yeah so to me the panel's in that string that are potentially impacted whereas with micro inverters paddles that are shaded when they were in sight that would have their our airport reduced is there any pluses and wonders if you want to go to Bucky Layton insane between a microwave version is clean inverter there are some limitations in that space micro inverters are generally an AC system so there are limitations once battery will be installed you may not have power outage protection whereas a stricken burden you generally would but that battery space is moving so quickly the systems are go on now with batteries in mind things are going to be flipped on their head so to speak in the next few years with the product and technology that's coming in battery side so what sort of maintenance to be neither look okay you know good quality solar panel last decades you know it's the inverter that's key the more budget range of inverters that are available out there they're obviously not going to last anywhere near as long as the better quality of others but you know a good quality european-made inverter you should get 15 plus G's what's our basic inverter breath Joe wolf Ronnie this is a pretty comedy burger that we've stalled at the moment they're an Austrian made unit the company's been around since 1945 very good quality they've got you know some good options in that hardware battery inverter space after sales support his bride tech supports great they're based in Australia and tullamarine so pretty local tools yeah you know 10-year factory warranties which is kind of unheard of in the inverter space some other brands that we use are SMA they're a German company so funny says it may probably take up 80% about traditional solar installs and then you've got you know you're more your budget range of inverters which sometimes get requested but you wouldn't actually so that wouldn't be our reputation and in that micro inverter or optimizer space we use in face to American very good quality and solar it's in phases when you put on a dress anyway we're be really good yeah and the monitoring side of it micron for the system is a bit more sophisticated general you've got generation information at the panel level rather than at the stream on the system level to some people like that aspect as well yeah they do you want to do system upgrades increase your panels change your fluid to the computer without easier to do it's fairly straightforward I mean it's hard to predict what's going to happen in the future but for new systems we would cover every option yeah and it's about picking the right technology in the first instance so you're not necessarily having to get rid of something that's been operating perfectly well to make that upgrade yes sometimes that's unaffordable but no you want to leave your options open as an as far as you can with the technology the capacities of things that are initially installed whilst keeping efficiency in mind from day one yeah and would you recommend installing batteries at the moment or could their climate outlook dependent I guess it depends that's important in my opinion just you know trying to deal in fact batteries are a wonderful thing and that will become mainstream the better quality and battery brands if you be happy I'd be happy to have it installed their pricing there they're not cheap so generally speaking you you need to have more and more driver than just looking at the dollars and cents you need to be in an area where you have poor power quality and you're seeing outages getting frequently than you're happy with or you know you just sick and tired of the retailers or distributors for one reason or another yeah so if you're just purely looking at the dollars and cents getting back to your payback period around the five-year mark for a traditional solar yeah for a good quality solar and battery setup that's well sized around your usage you're about doubling that okay back with solar panels what should people be thankful to make sure they're not getting ripped off and where it's not a bad press well there is some bad press around the again getting back to the brass you know doing a bit of research on the brand side of things there's some really good quality online forums as well that will give you information with you know the general public's experience again with solar manufacturers solar brands solar installers we wasted our clients or some of these forms of oil cool had a really good green tech form that you know there's a lot of feedback through that back on brands and companies so that's a great place to start again looking more into the company talking about solar panels if a solar panel brain is involved in large-scale utility type installations thousands of thousands of panels installed in a field somebody's financed that so there must be a level of bankability on that brain for money to be put up for those sort of projects so that's a good that's a game point to go for I don't know thank you very much [Music]
